Description

Since Khums is an issue with which a Shi‘ah Muslim is faced at least once
in a year, the need for a simple and, at the same time, comprehensive
book on this subject has been felt in our community since a long time.
And therefore, when this booklet was published in 1984 in Vancouver,
it was, al-hamdu lil-lãh, very well received.
In 1990, I revised and expanded the previous editions. A few pages
were added dealing with the verse of Khums (in Chapter One), and also
the usage of Khums during the days of the Prophet and the Imams of
Ahlu ’l-Bayt (in Chapter Four). These additions will give the reader a
brief look into the history of Khums. Obviously, the size and purpose
of the booklet did not allow me to deal with this aspect of Khums
comprehensively. A chapter has also been added at the end to express
my thoughts about some of the moral and “political” sides of Khums.
Finally, some practical issues related to Khums were also added in
Chapter Two for those who live in the West.
I hope this edition proves more useful to the members of our
community.

HEAVILY SUBSIDIZED BY WWW.WABIL.COMThis book addresses issues on the status and standing of women, their social, political, and cultural activities, housewifery, art, freedom, lifestyle, natural and acquired rights, and other issues from Islamic point of view. According to Islam, women and men alike possess the lofty status of humanity because they are both equally human. The fact that noble Adam ('a) was able to understand the Names and explain them was due to his unique genesis as a human and men and women are equal in this genesis. In general, all extolments in the Quran and Hadith regarding humans encompass both women and men. There is no verse in the Quran that reproaches women for being women. Therefore, according to Islam and the Quran, men and women are equally human, they are no different in worth, and they possess common responsibilities in managing the society. HEAVILY SUBSIDIZED BY WWW.ISLAMICTHOUGHT.CO.UKDiscovering Shi’i Islam is a brief introduction to main issues related to Islam in general and Shi’i Islam in particular. Though simply and clearly written, it is an outcome of more than twenty years of involvement in Islamic studies. The text studies the origins of Shi’i Islam and its sources, i.e. the Qur.an, the Sunnah, the reason and consensus. It also studies fundamental doctrines and main practices of Islam. It ends with a brief account of the latest statistics about the present Muslim population of the world along with a breakdown of religious affiliations of some countries with a long history of Shi’i presence therein. Discovering Shi’i Islam represents a sincere commitment to Islamic unity and is hoped to serve as a modest step towards Muslim brotherhood. Indeed, this book echoes the Qur’anic call for unity which extends to all people of faith to unify their efforts and concentrate on their common ground.
